Carolyn Jacobsen 1938-2013
Carolyn Jacobsen, 75, Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Miller, S.D., died April 20, 2013, in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Miller West, 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls.
Carolyn Ada Phinney was born April 7, 1938, at Ree Heights, S.D., to Lloyd and Ila Phinney. She was raised in the area and attended Ree Heights public schools.
Carolyn met her future husband while on a blind date in 1955. The two later attended a dance together, and fell in love. On August 7, 1956, Carolyn and Morris Jacobsen were married in Miller. As Morris became employed with IBM, the family lived in a number of cities throughout the United States. On August 7, 1976, they moved to Sioux Falls. The family enjoyed vacationing and traveling, and particularly enjoyed trips to California, Las Vegas, and visiting friends in Texas.
Carolyn enjoyed crocheting, and had handcrafted a number of items including doll clothes. In the 1980s, she won a blue ribbon at the South Dakota State Fair for her talents. Carolyn loved to cook. She always looked forward to trying a new recipe. Her homemade spaghetti sauce, made with vegetables from her garden, was a family favorite. A loving homemaker and mother, Carolyn enjoyed caring for her family. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed canning vegetables and fruit.
Blessed with a positive spirit, Carolyn was bubbly and upbeat.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Morris Jacobsen, Sioux Falls; son, James Jacobsen, Sioux Falls; brothers, Brent Phinney (Pat), Sioux Falls, and Michael Phinney, Mitchell, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers and sisters.
