On Friday, Feb. 22, Attorney General Marty Jackley and local prosecutor David Natvig confirmed the death of a four-year-old child in Buffalo County.

Donika Gonzales, 22, Gann Valley, has been initially arrested and charged with one count of felony abuse or cruelty to a minor, class 3 felony, maximum penalty of 15 years imprisonment and/or a $30,000 fine. Charges stem from an incident that occurred on February 21, 2013, at a residence in rural Gann Valley, South Dakota.

Gonzales is presumed innocent until such time as proven guilty.
