His first-place time in the 800-meter was 1:58.41.

Brockel was part of the 4×800 relay team, as well as the 4×400 team.

In the 4×800, team members were David Paul, Jaden Brockel, D.J. Beckwith and Brady Brockel. They came in fourth, with a time of 8:44.96.

The medley relay had 19th best time in the preliminary, with 4:03.85. The team was comprised of Connor Beeman, Soo Jae Lee, Nolan Hamilton and D.J. Beckwith.

The SBA team placed seventh overall.

Coach Jamie McClain was honored with a 25-year coaching award, presented by the S.D. High School Coaches Association, “for meritorious service to athletics in South Dakota.”

McClain commented on the season, “I would say that it was satisfying to see the guys perform well at state after having run their first meet just a month earlier, due to the late spring. They kept up a good attitude and worked hard through all the bad weather days.”
