An open house 90th birthday party honoring Phyllis DeJong will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Wolsey Senior Center on Main Street in Wolsey. If you cannot attend, cards may be sent to Phyllis DeJong, 19351 Peterson Avenue, Hitchcock, SD 57348.
An open house and farewell potluck will be held at the Gann Valley Community Center on Sunday, Oct. 27, starting at 12:30 p.m. It is also a farewell get-together for Keith Bridge, who will be leaving to spend the winter months in Arizona. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Gene and Carol Grabin joined a bus group to Mitchell and attended the Getty Music Concert Saturday evening.

Wade and Tara Yost’s baby son, Kendyn Paul, was baptized at St. Placidus Church on Saturday evening. A large crowd was in attendance and supper was served following Mass.
Joe Sinkie and Sheila Horsley, Hill City, visited Juanita Sinkie on Sunday.
Evelyn Wulff was a Sunday evening supper guest in the Wes and Charity Wulff home.
Gene and Carol Grabin attended the Eastern Star Grand Chapter Open House and Reception at Wessington Springs on Sunday.
A large crowd attended the Fall Ball held at the Gann Valley Fire Hall Saturday evening. South Hand Band provided the good music. The evening was highlighted when one of the band members proposed marriage to his girlfriend and she said, “Yes!”
Evelyn Wulff joined Doug and Barb Schleder who brought a carry-in supper to the Darlene Fousek home Thursday evening.
Judy Gaulke and Deb Glen attended the Fall Craft Show held in Wessington Springs Saturday.
Kevin Wulff and Tucker, Sioux Falls, were Gann Valley visitors over the weekend. Sunday they traveled to Vermillion where Tucker played football in the Dome.
Gene Grabin visited in the Patrick and Jennifer Cuka home near Sioux Falls a couple days during the week.
Gen Wooledge and family stayed at their Gann Valley campground over the weekend.
Ken and Elaine Wulff attended the supper held at the Kimball Protestant Church Sunday evening.
The Abernathy American Legion Auxiliary met Monday, October 14, 2013. The Flag Pledge was recited and opening prayer given Ellen Speck, treasurer, gave the financial report and the membership report. We are half way to goal. Motions were made and seconded to approve the financial report and a bill for the Christmas Stocking supplies.
The Auxiliary Charter was draped and a ceremony held honoring our deceased member, Connie Timmerman.
President Juanita Sinkie handed out project materials to the designated chairpersons. The Veterans’ Day program was discussed. A potluck for veterans and their families will be held at the Gann Valley Community Center on Sunday, Nov. 10 starting at 12:30 p.m.

Several pheasant hunters have been around the area but have had a hard time getting their limit. Saturday was a beautiful day, but Sunday hosted a very hard wind all day.
