Legion Auxiliary

The Abernathy Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary met Monday, Jan. 14.  Six members and our honored guest, Nancy Falor, Buffalo County VSO, joined in saying the Flag Pledge.   Treasurer Ellen Speck gave the financial report. Bills were approved for payment. The membership report verified we have made goal with 34 paid members.

The Mid-Winter Conference will be held at Cedar Shores, Oacoma, on February 8 to 10.  Ellen Speck will provide the silent auction item and will try to attend part of the meeting.

Due to the re-districting of the Auxiliary Units, District 6 President Theresa Maeschen proposed a joint meeting of neighboring units for her visit. Nancy Falor indicated the Kimball Unit has discussed hosting one of these meetings. The Abernathy Unit will send representatives to this meeting when scheduled.

Veterans Services Officer Nancy Falor and her husband, VSO Ron Falor, had visited the Hot Springs Veterans Facility. Mrs. Falor explained they had taken donated jackets and coats to Hot Springs and reported on various other items needed at the facility. There are 98 veterans and 29 non-veterans currently residing at the Hot Springs facility, which is located in a beautiful site.

The Abernathy Unit decided on a greeting card to send to Vietnam veterans of Buffalo County. They will be addressed at an upcoming meeting.  This is the 50th anniversary of that war.

Jerri Lutter read a moving article about a Vietnam veteran.   Elaine Wulff read a legislative article from the Legionette.  Judy Gaulke read a “Wish List” article from the December Legionette.

The February hostess will be Ellen Speck.

The weekend brought around an inch of snow. The Saturday winds blew it around.

Cooperation is the thorough conviction that nobody can get there unless everybody gets there.
