Customer service training offered for business owners, employees

Professional speaker, author and service expert, Dee Dee Raap, will showcase the latest and the best practices for building customer loyalty in two service seminars to be held Wednesday, May 22 at the Miller High School theatre.

All businesses in the area are invited to attend. Session one is for owners and managers. Session two is aimed for employees as the primary audience.

Raap is the author of “JourneyWords: 52 Strategies to Achieve Great Service.” She will conduct “Leading to Achieve Great Service” for business owners and managers from 10:30 a.m. to noon.     MHS commencement to be held Saturday

    Miller High School’s 110th commencement will be held Saturday, May 18 at the Miller Armory, beginning at 2 p.m.

    Thirty-three seniors will receive their high school diplomas during the afternoon ceremony.

    Speakers from the senior class of 2013 will be Kirstyn Fiala, Cassandra Coss and Jordan DeBoer.

    Hargens approved as Register of Deeds

    Hand County Commissioners met Tuesday, May 7 for their regular meeting.

    Hospital administrator Bryan Breitling was present with Partial Payment Request #29 for the hospital construction. Total for the month of April was $30,400.05 for work and materials; $2,368.00 for construction management fees; and $10,000.00 for architecture fees, for a total of $41,768.05, to be paid with USDA funds.

    Breitling said a balance of $433,383.49 remains from the $3.5 million USDA loan.

    On Hand, City Council hold confab about housing

    The Miller City Council held a special meeting with On Hand Development Corporation’s housing committee on May 7 to talk about housing problems facing the city and surrounding area.

    Miller has a shortage of available housing for potential owners or renters, and an overabundance of dilapidated, unused buildings. On Hand and the City would like to free up lots to make way for additional housing.

    Council approves Ames as deputy police chief

    Miller’s City Council held its first meeting of the month May 6.

    Outgoing council member Lorin Johnson was presented a certificate of appreciation for his 10 years on the board by Mayor Ron Blachford.

    After reconvening as the new council, oaths of office were administered to Mayor Blachford; Kristin Hargens, Ward 1, replacing Johnson; Joe Zeller, Ward 2; and Jim Odegaard, Ward 3. Sheila Coss was appointed Finance Officer and Shannon Speck was appointed Chief of Police.

Not, it wasn’t the Deputy Register of Deeds, who had been in that position for 10 years and who the Commissioners appointed as an interim to fill the position after the resignation of the Register of Deeds.

    Happy Mother’s Day was echoed repeatedly along with the overwhelming gratitude for the Cheryl Schaefers FAMILY. Yes, Mother Cheryl heads it up but it takes a family (guys, gals and all ages) to make it happen.
