4-H members recognized at annual banquet

Hand County recognized the accomplishments of their 4-H youth at the annual 4-H Recognition Banquet held on November 16.

It was a great year for Hand County 4-H. There were 457 static exhibits at Achievement Days, eight dog participants in the dog competition, 71 livestock exhibits, five horse show participants in 25 events, six fashion revue exhibits were judged, 13 special foods participants, and four public presentation participants. Archery had 25 participants, BB gun had 20 participants, air rifle had one participant, air pistol had 16 participants, shotgun had 21 participants and 4-H performing arts had 11 members.

To receive a county project medal, the 4-H member must be enrolled in 4-H for three years. The member must complete their 4-H journal and share what they have learned in the project area through workshops or by assisting younger 4-H members.

Winning purple ribbons at the 2013 State Fair were: Special Foods: Sara Jessen, Sydney Jessen, Clayton Keck, Garrett Neyens, Haley Schnathorst. Fashion Revue Selected Outfit: Cassie Beckett, Karly Beckett, Megan Fiala, Shae Knox. Fashion Revue Constructed One Article: Sydney Jessen, Sara Jessen. Public Presentations: Megan Fiala, Kirstyn Fiala, Sydney Jessen, Sara Jessen.

Senior Horticulture Skill-a-Thon Team: Clayton Keck, Shae Knox, Tia Pawlowski, Samantha Rogers. 2013 State Fair first-place individual was Clayton Keck. 2013 State Fair first-place team was Hand County.

Horse Show Highlights: Tyra Gates won purple ribbons in Beginner Showmanship, Beginner Stock Seat Equitation, Jr. Western Riding, Jr. Trail, Jr. Barrels, Jr. Poles. Morgan Naber took purple ribbons in Sr. Showmanship, Sr. Stock Seat Equitation, Sr. Western Riding, Sr. Reining, Sr. Trail. Cy Naber brought home purple ribbons in Jr. Showmanship and Jr. Poles. Ann Marie Naber received a purple ribbon in Jr. Poles.

The 2013 Hyde-Hand County Horse Show High Point All-Around was a tie between Morgan Naber and Tyra Gates.
